Methodology

This section of the syllabus concentrates on the different methods that can be used to carry out psychological research and also touches on other issues such as sampling, design and control. You should know strengths and weaknesses of all.

There are 9 main research methods you should know about:

  1. Laboratory Experiments
  2. Field Experiments 
  3. Natural Experiments
  4. Quasi Experiments 
  5. Correlational Studies
  6. Observations
  7. Questionnaire
  8. Case Studies 
  9. Interviews

Also, there are 3 experimental design you are required to know:

  1. Repeated Measures
  2. Independent Group Design
  3. Matched Pairs Design

As for sampling strategies, there are 4 main methods:

  1. Random Sampling
  2. Opportunity Sampling 
  3. Volunteer Sampling 
  4. Stratified Sampling
