The AS part of the Syllabus is divided in 5 different approaches:
- Cognitive Psychology
- Developmental Psychology
- Individual Differences
- Physiological Psychology
- Social Psychology
Each approach has 4 different studies, which you need to know the aim, procedure, results, conclusion and criticisms of.
There are 2 exams:
Paper 1 Core Studies 1
– Short Answer and structured essay questions (1 hour and 30 Minutes)
- 80 marks overall
- Section A – 15 short answers questions (60 marks)
- Section B – two structured essay questions (20 marks) with a choice of one core study from a list of three.
Paper 2 Core Studies 2
– Structured essay questions
- 70 marks overall
- Section A – One question on methodology with a named core study (25 marks) , One question on approaches and perspectives, and issues and debated, with a named core study. (25 marks)
- Section B – one question on approached, issues and debates related to a number of core studies, from a choice of two questions. (20 marks)
IMPORTANT – There is a section for Methodology and Issues and Debates as these are very important in all the exams across AS and A2.
